Discover the Essence of Your Business

Have you ever been caught speechless when someone asked you what was at the heart of what you do?  I took a look at all the things I do and found out that I focus on who I work with and use the same process on how the work is done no matter what the industry or project.  This is the essence of what I do.  How can you discover the essence of what you do?

The first step in my Grassroots Technology innovation process is crystalize.   I help others find the essence of what they do.  I can distill out of the chaos the simple, duplicatable parts of all that you do.  When starting a business, it’s important to focus on your core competency, the best of what you can do.  This becomes your offering to the world.  If you can do many things, how do you know which one is the best one?

Ask yourself, when have I been the most productive, the happiest, and in the groove?  When you have that feeling, use it as the gauge to find it in your work.  When you are working when do you feel the same way?  This is an intuitive way to discover the elements of essence in your work.

For example, I love to have Thanksgiving at my house.  It’s a grand production involving 24+ people, three kitchens, 4 vans and my house.  I can orchestrate and host this event while being very happy and holding the space for my family to be joyous.  This shows me that I love the role of executive producer where I can bring people, resources and places together for a glorious win-win experience.  I recreate the feeling of Thanksgiving when I manage projects, manage events or even when I plan my day. 

Being an executive producer is all about using a proven system with great resources for any project.  This crystalizing of my feelings helped me figure out that the essence of what I do is the Who and the How for any What.

Try something new… ask what people want

One of my favorite quotes is “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

This is so true with entrepreneurship.  If it isn’t working, it is OK to change it.

I’ve been looking for more business in my current lines of business that seem to have dried up.  It isn’t gone from just one market, it’s gone from all markets.  Now what?

The best thing is to ask your customers is “What do you need?”  My customers are asking for help connecting to their prospects and finding new leads.  They also want to leverage the social media tools available on-line.

The best thing to do in your social media, is link back to your website.  It is your nexus or hub for the Internet.  All traffic should come back to your website.  Then you can convert the traffic into prospects that would enjoy your newsletter.  As you create a relationship with your subscribers they will discover which of your products or services best fits them or someone they know.  Conversion is a key success factor in your website.

When people visit your website, you can add a survey to ask what they are looking for that is in scope of what you provide.  SurveyMonkey.com is my favorite survey tool.  ConstantContact.com also provides a survey tool.  If you have a website with a content management system, see if they have a simple survey module.  You can add it to your site and collect responses to do some simple market surveys.  This is a great way to tune up your marketing and to tweak your features to better serve your market.

Welcome to Continuity of Connections!

Greetings!

This is the first day of a new dawning of collaboration and continuity for me and my business, Grassroots Technology, LLC.  Join me as I explore the CONTINUITY of CONNECTION.  I am leveraging everything I know abut technology, the internet and networking to create a cohesive flow of information and abundance. 

This all started when Wes Hamilton challenged me to do something I have never done before – use everything I know at the same time for a single purpose.  It doesn’t sound too hard until you look at all the pieces that need to come together.  How can I take my Masters of Management of Technology, my years of experience with all things Internet, my knack for communications and my intuitive download of information and put it all together? 

The answer is unfolding as you read this blog post.  I am setting up a nexus at my website, http://www.grassroots-technology.com to connect all the social media, newsletters, surveys and other cool sites I use into a resource for business entrepreneurs.

I didn’t realize how much I was doing until I put it side by side.  The next trick is to create the continuity process of integrating all these building blocks and applying it to my business of supporting businesses as they start, grow and win with innovation.
